actors needed
> Help! We need an actor (or two or three) at PS 187. We just lost four
> members of our fabulous Hudson Heights Book Pals Team to other show-biz
> committments. Book Pals are professional actors who volunteer at the school
> once a week to read to an elementary school class .
>
> We'd need folks to volunteer for the rest of this school year, if possible.
> Does this sound like you or anyone you know in this talent-ridden
> neighborhood? This would be a great opportunity for an actor/prospective
> parent to get to know the Hudson Cliffs School from the inside...
>
> If you have any leads please contact me; I can tell you the specific
> time-slots to be filled and hook you up with the Elementary School Librarian
> ASAP.
>
> Thank you!

Needed for the Nature Center
For the Tuesday playgroup and the Wednesday Preschool on the Planet:

1) Throw rugs. Used is fine as long as they can be cleaned by a good
scrubbing, which we're happy to do. We had 3 but are down to 1 after
an unfortunate dog-poop incident, and we have a lot of crawlers at
playgroup.

2) A portable CD player. The quality is unimportant, and nothing needs
to work but the CD part and the speakers.

Thanks to everyone who donated the many wonderful toys and books. We
have plenty to keep all of the tots busy for a good long time!

Volunteer to become a Learning Leader at PS 187
Anyone from the community, whether you have a kid there or not,
potentially can volunteer through the Learning Leaders program. The
commitment is 1-2 hours a week and you would be placed in a classroom
at a time that works with your schedule, helping out the teacher.
You'd work one-on-one with kids (k-4) or in small groups.

It is a great way to learn about the school, from the inside out as
well as volunteer right in our community by helping our neighborhood
children.

If you would like to find out more please call Sybil Mercado (parent
coordinator) at 347-563-5070.

Comedy Night at Coogans recommendation
Hello all,

I really feel I must tell you I have been twice now to Comedy Night at Coogan's (169th and Broadway) Thursdays 8:30pm-10pm and it is in fact funny. And I don't think I am laughing so hard just because I never get out and 1 drink (you have to spend $10, but there's no cover and the watermelon martinis are so pretty!) really is a lot for me or because there are only 6 people in the audience so I feel like I have to laugh. I really do think the comics are funny. And I am afraid if none of you ever show up they will stop doing it and then I'll have to go back to date night at Healthy Habits--which is just not as funny.

Hope everyone is getting a lot of laughs without having to hire a babysitter but I firmly believe all couples should have date night and it should include comedy!

Warm regards,

Laurie

P.S. The food is quite good at Coogan's I have sampled everything from ribs and steaks to healthy salads.
