Bennett Park Programs
Hi all,

I will be talking to someone from Partnerships for Parks sometime next week about getting a tiny bit of funding for programs in Bennett Park this spring/summer, and would like some feedback. Some of the ideas I have are to do two or three activity days, e.g.,

Ladybug day -- where we can learn about ladybugs, examine them under a magnifying glass, and let some free into the park

Worm day -- similar idea, with earthworms. This would be heaven for preschoolers!

Bubble day -- use big buckets of bubble liquid and different kinds of wands to explore what happens with different shapes.

None of these are earth-shatteringly expensive; I think we can put these on for under $100 each. My questions are:

1) Do these sound like something you'd like to do with your kids?
2) Any ideas for additional programs?
3) Anyone willing to volunteer to help me out in doing these?

For anyone unfamiliar with how Friends of Bennett Park works, the general gist is that if you come up with the idea and are willing to put the program together, we'll help you find funding and get you permits, etc. Technically I'm no longer chair of FoBP (not sure if anyone is!), but I still know how to work the system and would love to help make things happen. It's possible to go the big-bucks route and get more pre-programmed activities in the park (if someone is willing to write grant proposals), but in my opinion what makes a neighborhood work is getting involved instead of being a consumer. So... if you're wanting to get involved, let me know!
