5/21/06-volunteers needed!
We have been approved for May 21, with all expenses covered by the
Nature Center! This will be a FREE event for kids 6 and under and
their parents.

However, in order to make this work (and make it a recurring event),
we will need a lot of volunteer assistance. But volunteering is a
*minimal* time and responsibility outlay, and *guarantees* your
family preferred, immediate entrance to the event at any time of
arrival--something we can't promise anyone else!

Here are the positions we need to fill.

DAY OF EVENT
1: Stroller parking 2:45-4:30
1: Stroller parking 4:30-6:15
1: Food tables 3:00-4:30
1: Food tables 4:30-6:00

4: Decoration and food setup 1:00-3:00
4: Cleanup 6:00-7:00

3: Decoration facilitators at Preschool on the Planet session TBS
1: Food pricing and inventory

and post a message.

Thanks!

Toddler Disco
We had a great meeting last night about setting up a Toddler Disco
party at the Nature Center.

This event will be FREE and FABULOUS, but in order to make it a
success we will need help from more moms and dads. If you would be
interested in helping out with the planning, or in volunteering at the
event for a 90-minute shift (that is most vital), please join us at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/naturecenterdance/

Just a note that volunteering for the Nature Center counts as official
community service/volunteer work and we can provide letters of
service. Not so important for adults, but I do this for my teenage
cousins, who always help out and use the letters to meet their school
volunteer commitments.

Hi Everyone,

I am please to announce that I will be leading a series of free wellness events at The Inwood Hill Nature Center. The first one is Sunday April 2nd from 10am until 1130am. Here is the information:

GOT THE SUGAR BLUES?
If you or your children are constantly craving sweets or carbs, and you want to understand why and gain control without willpower struggles or deprivation, please join me, Barbara Goldman-Sherman, for a free seminar about SUGAR!!! (including tastings!)

This is a participatory event (not just a lecture) for adults concerned about their own health and their entire family's vitality and wellness. We will discuss ways to manage weight, cravings, mood swings and achieve more balance without diets!

SUNDAY APRIL 2nd, 10-1130 am
RESERVATIONS RECOMMENDED (reply to me via email or call 212-544-2367 so I don't run out of samples!)
walk-ins ok too

There will be one event per month through September, and if there is a topic in nutrition that you are hoping I will address, please feel free to send me an email about it!

I look forward to seeing many of you there.
Namaste,
Barbara

Egg Hunt
The time of the Egg Hunt, a local, parent organized event on the western hill of southern Ft. Tryon Park, is approaching. Traditionally, 2 or 3 parents have taken on the role of coordinating this small event with advice and input from previous coordinators. It is an effort that takes about 5 hours of pre-organizing (collecting some "start-up" donations from local friends, ordering eggs and favors from Oriental Tradingn Co., hosting a gathering of parents to stuff eggs- really a wine and cheese party in disguise!), then day of event coordinating (hiding eggs, passing out a donation jar, and announcing 3 separate age groups for shifts of egg hunting.) This is the job in a nutshell.

I encourage all to participate in the event as it is a fun neighborhood gathering, and hope that a few people step up to coordinate this year's effort. Each previous year the coordinator took notes on budget, supplies, hunting format etc, in order to make the next year's coordinators' job easier.

Contact me directly if you are interested in coordinating and I will put you in touch with last year's coordinator Lori Hoffman for info. Thanks Lori for last year's great effort!

actors needed
> Help! We need an actor (or two or three) at PS 187. We just lost four

> We'd need folks to volunteer for the rest of this school year, if possible.
