Fresh Air Fund
This summer, give your child a free summer vacation they will never forget. The Fresh Air Fund is currently registering 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders for free summer vacations. The Fund sends children to visit rural and suburban areas in one of 13 states and Canada for two weeks during the summer. It's a chance for your child to get out of the city and into the beautiful countyside, run barefoot through grass, swim, play outdoors, and fish in fresh water streams.

Horticultural Therapy Workshops--preregistration required
Beginning in May, Northern Manhattan Parks introduces a free Horticultural Therapy Program for Seniors in the Heather Garden. The 9-week program is designed for seniors with hand-on workshops including, flower arranging, greeting card construction, and other decorative arts. Horticultural therapy maintains that contacts with plants are essential to human well-being and has proven restorative effects. The goal is to increase knowledge and awareness of nature through hands-on experiences. Participants can improve their self-esteem, stimulate their senses, enhance creativity, and stimulate cognitive skills. Workshops are 1.5 hours each and limited to 15 participants. Program is free, but advanced registration is required. Call Linda, 212-927-9568.
